Riverside Regeneration, Gainsborough

As lead artist I was appointed  to develop an overall vision for the Gainsborough Riverside Public Arts Scheme which formed part of the Riverside Regeneration Programme to improve the new flood defences and create a riverside promenade on the banks of the River Trent, for approximately 1km of riverside.  This was a largely derelict area of the town.

On ‘Turning Tides’  my role was to work in partnership with project landscape architects Sheils Flynn Ltd, and environmental consultants ECUS (Environmental Consultants Sheffield University), Local Authoruty Arts Officers, East Midlands Arts (Arts Council) Eastern Arts Board, Commissions East (project managers)on the development of themes, identification of locations for artworks and street furniture and recommendations and appointment of artists to realise these opportunities and  to ensure public support. Community consultation and an innovative arts education programme formed a vital part of the scheme carried out by commissioned artists. A number of commissions were completed  in  2003.  The Riverside now hosts an annual  festival which began 2001 during the development of the turning Tides shceme and a cycle route.
